Facilities Estimator


The Estimating group within the Facilities Planning, Design & Construction Department (FPDC) at the University of North Texas is seeking to hire a Facilities Estimator to join our team.

Facilities Planning, Design & Construction consists of six sub-groups: Campus Planning, Auxiliary Planning, Landscape Planning, Engineering, Estimating, Construction Inspection, and Facilities Information Services. The Facilities Department at the University of North Texas is seeking to hire a Facilities Estimator to join our team.  Responsibilities of the position include, but are not limited to:

  • Works with a variety of staff, faculty, leadership and students as the first service point for planning design & construction purposes.
  • Assesses data on past projects and industry costs/sf published costs to provide recommendations and opinion of cost information to clients.
  • Prepares detailed estimates including quantity take-offs, labor hours, material and equipment and all related costs to complete project budgets.
  • Works with Facilities design and maintenance and utility staff on requirements of building code, MEP systems and maintenance requirements for renovations.
  • Establishes and maintains records of project estimates and worksheets.
  • Re-evaluates estimates as required.
  • Maintains knowledge of current changing construction market escalation and industry costs.
  • Evaluates material suppliers/vendors and service providers for current product information and pricing.
  • Monitors internal accounting for projects and cost control systems.
  • Conducts review of construction drawings and information provided by staff prior to completing detailed estimates.
  • The Facilities Estimator will exercise considerable initiative and independent judgment in the performance of assigned duties.
  • Other duties as assigned.

The successful candidate will possess a Bachelor's Degree in Architecture, Interior Design, or related field and six (6) years of professional related experience; or any equivalent combination of experience, education, and training. The following knowledge, skills, and abilities are required:

  • Physical ability to access work areas which may be in confined spaces or elevated heights.
  • Proficiency in specific software may be required.

The preferred candidate will possess the following additional qualifications:

  • Depth of experience in Facilities estimating, management, design and/or construction industry.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in both verbal and written forms and possession of a strong analytical and problem solving ability.
  • Depth of working knowledge using Excel, Power Point, and construction estimating programs.
  • Familiarity with Texas Higher Educational Facilities including knowledge of state procurement regulations.
